Award Winning Historical Romance
*Excerpt available in the Eastern Shore Writers Association 2020 Bay to Ocean Anthology*
On a sunny spring day in 1793, Arthur, the twenty-three-year old middle son of a noble but impoverished family and officer in the 18th Light Dragoons, proposed marriage to his sweetheart, Kitty.
He was refused. Lord Longford, Kitty’s brother and guardian, pronounced Arthur’s suit unacceptable. He was too young and low of rank with neither money nor prospects.
Arthur was devastated. He threw away his violin, his books of poetry, and his fondness for petty gambling, tenaciously turning his attentions to his military career. But he vowed that his love for Kitty would never die, and that his offer would stand.
Sadly, and despite its romantic beginnings, the marriage that took place thirteen years later was not a happy one. The couple who would become the first Duke and Duchess of Wellington lived apart for most of their marriage, occupying separate rooms in the house when they were together.
But what if…they didn’t? What if they found a way to overcome the obstacles of time, and distance, and the overwhelming pressures of success and fame?
That, is this story...
Sort of.
